Welcome to Oakville Yacht Squadron…

Whether you are an avid racer, family cruiser or just interested in learning to sail, the Oakville Yacht Squadron has much to offer. We are a family club. One membership covers the entire family and includes a wide range of activities from sailing lessons to club cruises, racing to “just messing about in boats”. The Oakville Yacht Squadron is a club for every type of sailor. To keep our costs down, we operate as a self-help club. Everyone pitches in to get the work done – and we have fun doing it. Located on the West Side of Sixteen-Mile Creek, just south of the Lakeshore Road Bridge, the Oakville Yacht Squadron is one of the prettiest spots in town.

OYS will host again the J 27 North Americans, Aug 7-9, because we like too and are experienced at it. Sailors found our venue first rate and the event was run very well. A repeat performance is on our books(although a shuffling of the results please) and we are calling out early for Volunteers. Please contact me at beromotors@yahoo.com

Watch the results of the J 27 Mid Winters, Feb 18-23 hosted by the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans. Although we do not have any boats entered, at least 5 of our sailors will be competing on US boats.
Keeping the racing spirit alive.

Also, OYS’s Bruce Scott is campaigning in the U.S of A this winter in his ultra unique Lightning Class boat. Two Regatta’s are entered. The first at Savannah Yacht Club, Feb 28-Mar 02 and the next at St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Mar 22-24. Bruce says he just wants to sail more Regattas, and the Lightning Class is the largest in North America.
Keeping the racing spirit alive.

I would like to invite the Membership to visit the ISAF World Chamionships in Santander, Spain results page on their website and see how many OYS juniors are participating. Lest we forget these young competitors shall we regret the programs future. An outstanding group no matter where they finish.

Messing About sends out a big congratulations to OYS and BHYC Race Committee`s and the great job out PRO Ann Sanderson did of mating theses two teams. A big double thumbs up to the shore crew who made it all work for the competitors and families thereof. We cannot forget the efforts of the planning committees and fearless leader Murray Souter, and, without mentioning names, it was great to compete against a group of great sailors, both skippers and crews. It was great that you all made the effort
