Sailing School - Adult Program
White Sail (I, II, III) - Introduction to Sailing
White Sail is composed of three levels - I, II and III. The purpose of the White Sail program is to teach basic sailing skills and to provide an introduction to sailing that is both safe and enjoyable. Some of the skills include:
Basic boat handling and sail trim
Water safety
Knots
How to rig and de-rig a boat
Basic weather patterns
Fundamental sailing terminology and skills
Self rescue techniques
Bronze Sail (IV, V) - Advanced Sailing Skills
Upon successful completion of White Sail III, students may progress to the Bronze Sail program. Bronze Sail is composed of two levels, IV and V, and is focused on expanding the student's skills. Some of the skills include:
Advanced sail trim and boat handling
Performance sailing and proper boat trim
Trapezing
Physics of sailing
Spinnaker
Boat repair and maintenance
Adult Learn to Cruise
The Learn to Cruise program focuses on the development of basic cruising skills such as:
Basic coastal navigation
Chart reading
Anchoring
Radio operation
Docking skills
Right of way rules
Adult Learn to Race
The Learn to Race program was developed to teach the skills necessary to successfully skipper and/or crew a racing sail boat. Some of the skills include:
Advanced sail trim and theory
Introduction to the international rules of racing
Racing start sequences
Introductory tactics
High performance sail and boat trim
Crew Bench - Wednesday Night Racing
All adult students are invited to show up at the Crew Bench before 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights during the racing season - senior club members are always looking for more crew! The Crew Bench is located at the southeast corner of the clubhouse under the sign.
