Wet Feet at OYS is filled with lots of fun! We provide a safe, fun, and exciting introduction to sailing giving the young sailors a chance to develop their fundamental sailing skills in our fleet of Mosquito pram dinghies. This program has been launched across Canada, focusing on giving children between the ages of 7-9 an opportunity to sail. Days will be filled with a variety of different activities in addition to sailing, to ensure an enjoyable and well-rounded experience for all participants!
This program is offered in two week sessions Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm throughout July and August. For specific dates please check out our online registration.

CANSail 1 & 2 
(Recommended ages 10+)
Prerequisites: None
This is an introductory program to our sport of sailing with a focus on fun, safety and fundamental skills, CANSail 1 replaces the CYA White Sail I course; and CANSail 2 replaces the CYA White Sail II & III courses. This course is taught using our fleet of CL 14 dinghies. Instruction in water safety; basic boat handling and sail trim; knots; rigging and de-rigging; basic weather patterns; sailing terminology and skills; self-rescue techniques. Lessons are creatively delivered by our team of qualified and experienced CANSail instructors both on and off the water.
Programs are offered in two week sessions Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm during July and August. For specific dates please look at our online registration form.

CANSail 3 & 4
Prerequisites: CANSail 1 & CANSail 2 complete
CANSail 3 & 4 progressively builds and develops the skills in CANSail 1 & 2, with a focus on keeping the sailor engaged with appropriate challenges and learning opportunities. CANSail 3 replaces the CYA Bronze IV course, and CANSail 4 replaces the CYA Bronze V course.
CANSail 3 & 4 includes the opportunity for some local regatta participation. Regattas may require some travel, and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas should students choose to attend. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from OYS. Coaching will be provided.

CANSail 5 & 6
Prerequisites: CANSail 1-4 complete
This program is designed to bridge the gap between CANSail 3 & 4 (Formerly CYA Bronze) and CANSail 5 & 6 (Formerly CYA Silver/Gold). It will allow our sailors to experience the level of training required to be part of a high performance race team, while continuing to develop the skills learned in previous levels. As this program is taught in spinnaker and trapeze rigged 420 dinghies it will also enable students to concurrently work towards achieving their CANSail Chutes and Wires 1 & 2 specializations.
Participation at regattas is an integral part of the program and requires a strong commitment from both the parents and the sailors. Regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC. Coaching at regattas will be provided.
This program is offered as 4 week sessions during July and August, however 8 weeks are strongly recommended for this level of sailor. For specific dates please check out our online registration form.

OPTI Learn to Race Team – Sailors will be working towards their CANSail 3 & 4 levels
Prerequisites: CANSail 1 & CANSail 2 complete
Requirements: Each sailor must provide their own Optimist Dinghy (program fees include storage for the sailing season)
CANSail 3 & 4 progressively builds and develops the skills learned in CANSail 1 & 2, with a focus on keeping the sailor engaged with appropriate challenges and learning opportunities. This allows our OPTI racers to continue to progress through their sailing levels, while providing them with the racing curriculum that they want and love!
Team members are expected to participate in the full season of instruction and regattas which will require a high degree of commitment on the part of both the sailors and parents. Coaches and support boats will accompany sailors to regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from OYS.
Offered in a 6 week session Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm with 2 extra session weeks available.
Cost: $1,152.60; $1,020.00 (born in 2000 or later)

OYS Single Handed Race Team – Sailors will be working towards their CANSail 5 & 6 levels
Prerequisites: CANSail 1 – 4 complete
Requirements: Each sailor must supply his/her own boat –Laser or Optimist Dinghy (program fees include storage for the sailing season)
In this program the advancing sailors’ skills are consolidated and applied to racing/sailing faster. Training becomes more challenging, and complexity is added to result in a sailor with the foundation to carry on in racing, and/or leadership.
The Oakville Yacht Squadron has a long history of excellence in racing, and our race teams continue to bring honor to our club and our sailors. In order to maintain this reputation and high level of performance a greater commitment is expected of the members of our race team. Participation at regattas is an integral part of the program and requires a strong commitment from both the parents and the sailors. Regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. OYS Double Handed Race Team – Sailors will be working towards their CANSail 5 & 6 levels
Prerequisites: CANSail 1 – 4 complete
This program will require a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 students; 1-3 of the OYS 420‘s will be made available for this program and each crew will be assigned a boat for the season. Extended Hours
Available for sailors who need to be dropped off or picked up outside of our regular hours. The OYS Sailing School Program is flexible for those guardians who need to take some extra time. Extended hours in the morning will begin at 7:30 AM and in the afternoon be offered from 3:30 – 6:00 PM.
Cost: $50.00/week
